Sorin Zlat, Winner of the JACKSONVILLE JAZZ PIANO COMPETITION
Last week, Sorin Zlat participated in an international competition in Jacksonville, Florida - "Jacksonville Jazz Piano Competition 2015" (formerly known as “The Great American Competition”), one of the most prestigious jazz competitions in America. There, Sorin Zlat won the Grand Prize. It is the first time in the 30-year history of this competition that the jury awarded this prize to a pianist from outside the United States.

Sorin Zlat won one of the most important jazz competitions in the United States. The contest brought together two hundred artists from around the world in Florida, but only five reached the grand finale. It is for the first time in the history of the competition when the grand prize was won by a competitor outside the United States.

Pianist Sorin Zlat Awarded the Title of Honorary Citizen of His Hometown
On January 29, 2019, Mr. Sorin Zlat became Honorary Citizen of his native town Bacau, Romania. The decision was subject to vote by the local government officials who unanimously agreed on awarding this distinction to Mr. Zlat for his outstanding national and international career. In a solemn and equally emotional ceremony for the artist, Mr. Cosmin Necula, the town’s Mayor, handed Mr. Zlat the town key, an honor he will treasure for the years to come.
Sorin Zlat Trio enters the London jazz landscape at the prestigious Pizza Express in Soho and Vortex Jazz Club, on March 21 and 23, through a series of events organized by ICR London and financially supported by the Romanian Cultural Institute.
A rich biography, national and international collaborations and multiple awards that represent a recognition of his talent, the pianist Sorin Zlat has an artistic career that is developing harmoniously. Born into a family of musicians, his musical education started in his early childhood and continued with a degree in classical clarinet form the “George Enescu” University in Iasi, and a Master’s Degree in piano jazz from the National Music University in Bucharest.
